Revisional Surgery
Revisional Surgery
Remediating Your Health
For patients who have had failed or faulty weight loss surgery, revisions may be needed to correct the surgery for proper weight loss. Performed on patients who have already undergone bariatric surgery but have experienced complications or have not achieved their desired weight loss goals.
Some reasons why a patient may need it include weight regain, persistent or new-onset co-morbidities, intolerances to certain foods, or complications such as leaks or strictures. The type of revisional surgery depends on the specific situation. Some options are:
- Conversion from a gastric band to a sleeve gastrectomy or gastric bypass
- Conversion from a sleeve gastrectomy to a gastric bypass or
- Re-sleeve gastrectomy for inadequate weight loss or weight regain after a previous sleeve gastrectomy.
How It Works
Any revisional bariatric surgery is a complex procedure which carry a higher risk of complications compared to primary bariatric surgery. Patients must undergo a comprehensive evaluation to assess their candidacy for revisional surgery, and must be willing to make significant lifestyle changes to achieve and maintain weight loss after surgery.
